Do you remember these two? Well after years of dreaming of having family near-by, my niece and nephew-in-law are new Idahoans! To celebrate their arrival, new jobs, just cause we love um', and can, we had a little get together and I made this outrageously easy and heavenly dessert.
Snappy Turtle Dessert
is one of our family's favorite treats that is layered and luscious! It's quick to throw together and forget in the freezer until you need it. I've served it at parties, taken it to potlucks, and been glad to have it ready when friends stop by.
"What is this?" I have given prizes to those who figure it out!
Secret ingredients; ice cream sandwiches, whipped topping, butterscotch-caramel sauce and toasted pecans or almonds.
That's it, what could be easier? So let's snap to it! Start by toasted your choice of nuts.
I used these little fatties this time because they were in my freezer and I wanted to use them up. Usually I use about 15 regular ice cream sandwiches for each layer.
I used about 17 fatties. Cut them in half to fill the edges. Shoot for a snug fit!
Now add the butterscotch-caramel sauce, toasted nuts, and half the whipped topping.
Top with another layer of ice cream sandwiches...
and cover with remaining whipped topping. Cover and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving.
Make Hot Fudge Sauce with butter, chocolate and sweetened condensed milk.
Stir every few minutes and keep warm. Careful it will scorch.
Depending on how big you slice it, this recipe makes 12 to 20 generous servings. Top with hot fudge sauce, whipped cream and garnish with whipped cream, nuts and a cherry or berry on top.
We miss having our kids close, but we have this great guy from our hood. He is so kind and willing to help us and we like to share treats. We are trying to adopt him. It's a win-win! ;D
Snappy Turtle Dessert
30 ice cream sandwiches
1 (17 oz) jar butterscotch-caramel sauce
1 (16 oz) whipped topping
1-1/2 cup nuts, toasted
whipped cream
cherries or berries
Toast nuts in a 350 oven, stirring once for 5 to 10 minutes. Watch carefully so they don't burn. Place 15 ice cream sandwiches in a 13X9" baking dish. Spread evenly with butterscotch-caramel sauce. Sprinkle 1 cup of toasted nuts on top and top with half of the whipped topping. Add another layer of ice cream sandwiches. Top with the remaining whipped topping. Cover well and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving. Before serving make hot fudge sauce. Top each serving with hot fudge sauce, whipped cream and garnish with remaining toasted nuts and cherries or fresh berries.
Hot Fudge Sauce
1 stick butter
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
Melt butter and chocolate over medium heat, stirring constantly. Add sweetened condensed milk and stir over low heat till well incorporated. Keep warm and serve over almost anything!
This is some mighty fine looking breakfast food. Oh, it's not for breakfast, you say. Aw, shucks! It does have lots of dairy. Guess I will just have to make it for a great dessert :)
It looks totally delicious, and since I think Turtles are just about the best candy taste ever, I am positive that it is. I'm wondering if you could even make it *somewhat* slimmer by using sugar free ingredients in some places.
Awesome looking dessert! I had a 2 year old on my lap while looking at it and she got all excited seeing it!! She kept saying, "cake! Cake! I want! I want!"
To all my friends and followers, this and most desserts I can't get near! The best part for me is that it's in the freezer and I guess it's that "out of sight, out of mind" thing. My husband can and does like to indulge in a little treat or popcorn each night. AND yes to Debbie's comment about using no added sugar ingredients for this. I will make some low-carb desserts I enjoy in the next few weeks. Hugs to all of you, and take small bites!
How nice to have some family near by! I have this recipe too, I served it at a book club at my home...they are huge pieces...and the ladies ate every bite! ;D
This is ingenious! I'm loving all these new reipes, Nee. I've made up quite a few. The pasta salad a few posts back was to die for. And I have to add that's the cutest couple ever...kudos to the chic that whipped up that creation! xoxo
I bet they'll never want to move away from you guys after that dessert. It's looks absolutely incredible! No wonder the neighborhood kids like hanging out with you. Hope your welcome party went well. Good job!
Good Morning, Gnee!
